Don’t make the same mistake I made the first time I stored bananas in the freezer. I stored my bananas in the freezer with the skin unpeeled. A day after I was going to use the banana, the skin was so hard and stuck to the flesh that it was a hard task for me to peel. I throw them into a cold bowl of water but the outcome was so messy that I didn’t hesitate to have them binned.

Then store them in the freezer. If you want to use them for muffins or banana bread, bring them out from the freezer and defrost in the fridge overnight. For ice creams or smoothies, take bananas straight from the freezer, put in the blender and blend until it is smooth. Save your overripe bananas in the freezer for the rainy day. 

How To Know If A Banana Is Bad

You can find out if your banana has spoilt by simply smelling it, always pay attention to moldy, mildewed or rotten scent. A banana is bad or rotten from either inside or outside when it smells bad.

1. Check bananas for firmness 

Make a gentle squeeze or press on the banana to determine if it is strong. A good banana usually feels soft, bad bananas will be mushy and very soft when touched. 

2. Examine the skin

Always consider bananas with yellow skins, it doesn’t matter if they have a few brown spots. Remember, brown spots on a banana doesn’t suggest the banana is bad. You may want to avoid buying bananas with too much mold on the skin or those with extensive browning, as they might have started going bad inside and are not likely to last long at home.

3. Check for an unusual brown spot when peeled

When you unskilled the banana, check if there’s one black or brown spot inside. Simply cut out the bit and eat your banana. Moreover, an unusual or a big black spot on the banana means is bad.

4. Taste the banana 

You can also determine if a banana is bad by giving it a bite. Once it tastes good, it means your banana is good even if it has some spots or it’s a little mushy. Throw the banana away if it tastes unusual.
